Public Work

Garfield Library
Santa Cruz, California

The Garfield library is a Carnegie library built in 1915 and is a federally listed historical building. Teall Messer Architect worked with library staff to complete an interior remodel and add square footage to make space for restrooms and staff work space. The historical status meant that the exterior was dealt with gingerly to ensure that the addition is visually distinct. The building also had numerous accessibility issues that were resolved by the design.
